This Week: sacred psalms
Over the next five Sundays we are going to dive into five selected chapters of the books of Psalms. The Psalms lead us through the peaks and valleys of the human experience. It covers around 1,000 years of history ranging from the time of Moses to the time of Ezra in the fifth century BC. We see despair, desperate cries, the pouring out of confession, ecstatic praise and bubbling over of joy. You see realness, deep expressions and passion coming forth from the pages. As Jesus says in Matthew 12.34, From the overflow of the heart the mouth will speak. The 150 Psalms do just that. Let us as a body get into the heart of these Psalms praying as David does, Search Me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way (Psalm 139.22-24).
