I wanted to write you and tell you of the success I had going door to door last weekend during our neighborhood survey activity. I must admit, at first I was really apprehensive about going and felt out of my comfort zone. I prayed the night before to give me the courage and strength that would allow me to face my fears of rejection and be able to successfully represent His will in the community.
I received my assigned area and took to the street with my wife and 2 kids. We were joined by the Thacker's and by Aaron Henry. We split up and divided up one side of the street for one team and the other side for the other. Burns Thacker and my 2 kiddo's knocked on many doors with no response. We came upon one door that finally opened and it allowed us to get a feel for what to expect. The young gentleman's name was Jose' and he was willing to take the community survey with us. He asked the question "What Church are you from?" and this allowed us to open up and to talk to him personally about what was going on in his life. He attended the church down the street and was an active member but he really appreciated what we were doing out in the community and had some suggestions on the survey of what the neighborhood needs are. He welcomed prayers for him and his family and then we were off to the next door. The first one was now complete and I felt that this was not so bad. God has a plan and this is going to be a great day.
The next door that opened for us was something I totally would not have expected. It was a couple that was very receptive to our visit and they could not have been more nicer. They invited us into their home, offered us something to drink, and opened up to us about their needs in the community. It was such a rewarding experience to see how God works. This couple was looking for a Church to attend and was very excited to hear about our community outreach and how we worship. They love the fact that we are a Bible Church and Christian centered. During our conversations the gentleman actually took the survey and filled it out. In the course of our conversations I happened to mention that I was one of the adults that was unemployed now. The lady of the house gave me her business card and told me that the company she works for is hiring and she would put me in touch with the correct people at her office. The gentleman of the house mentioned to Burns that he had extra building supplies that he gets on an annual basis and if we would like to use these in our projects to help the community we were more than welcome to it. They also mentioned a lady they know in the neighborhood was in need of food and has the Angel Food network helping her out. Burns and I made note of this request and have turned it in to the Church so that we can offer assistance to her and add her in our prayers.
What an experience! I knew that the doors were opened and people were receptive because of God. No matter how the rest of the day turned out, I knew that even this one "success story" was worth the effort and not worth the anxiety I felt before the day started. We talked to a few more neighbors and filled out more community needs during our allotted time of 2 hours. We went back to our gathering place and shared our successes. I wanted to also share with you and the rest of the Church Family. I hope that everyone gets the opportunity to feel the way I felt when I knew God was working with us.
Thanks to all those who organized this activity and who prayed for its success!
God Bless,
Brett Case
