The writer of Hebrews says, Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith (Hebrews 13.7). When considering men for the role of elder this verse is one that I hold dear to. I believe our elders are men that we as a church can look to as examples of godliness and faith. I especially believe that about Trey Israel and Frank Henry. Both these men have been examples to us as godly, servant leaders.
Trey has been an elder for one year and will be finishing his role in that office this Summer due to God’s calling of him and his family to serve in Serbia. I am overwhelmed with joy to see the Israels going to the harvest in Serbia. Frank has served in the role of elder for two years. Frank believes it is time for him to step aside to continue serving his wife, children and also in the Orphan Outreach. I am filled with gratitude for both these men and their leadership.
As was mentioned this past Sunday we would like for you to begin praying in regards to God’s calling of one to two men to join our current elders. I would like for you to pray with your focus on 1 Timothy 3.1-7 and Titus 1.5-9. As God lays names of certain men on your heart I would like for you to personally ask them if they aspire to the office of elder (1 Timothy 3.1). If they do then I would like for you to submit their name to either a current elder or staff member. The names need to be submitted no later than Sunday, July 19. Once the names are submitted the elders will pray and seek the Lord concerning the submissions. When the elders come to a place where God leads them to one or two men the church body will be notified.
Thank you for letting the elders lead and keep watch over your souls with joy (Hebrews 13.17).
Working for your joy,
Jerry
