An Awakened Hunger

Whom have I in heaven but You?  And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever (Psalm 73.25-26).  These words penned by Asaph speak of a hunger for God.  They reflect an intense appetite.  Do you have a hunger for God like Asaph?  Do you have a strong desire for the glory of God?  As we begin this new year may our hunger, desires and appetite for God be renewed.  May the practice of prayer and fasting be the starting point for a year of new and fresh longings after God.  That is the desire of our week of prayer.  The goal of this week’s message and the coming week of prayer is that they would be a launching pad into a year with God as the supreme hunger of our heart.

I don't know about you, but I nibble too much on the temporal food of this world.  I need a renewed longing for the glory of God.  My personal prayer for this week of prayer is that I would not stuff my soul this year on small things, but feed on the greatest of all goods - God!

This Sunday (January 1) we will have one worship gathering at 11 am for everyone (all children included).  We have intentionally cleared the calendar of any other activities this first week of the year to make our prayer gatherings a priority.  Let me encourage those who work from home or nearby the church’s building to swing by and join us for prayer at noon on the week days.  Also be sure to join us Wednesday night (January 4) for a special worship gathering.

In closing, I wanted to update you on some financial news.  The budget for 2012 was approved with a vote of 93%.  Also, we have surpassed our advent giving goal and have received $.  Praise God for His provision and the generosity of His church.  If you are still planning to give a year-end gift you may either online or through the mail.  Anything post marked before the end of the year will go toward 2011.
