Sacred Psalms: Psalm 115

Scott Berthel is our teacher today. He is married to Sally and looking forward to celebrating their 22nd anniversary this summer. Together they have two daughters, Isabella and Elleanna. As a family, they enjoy traveling, cooking, reading, and playing together. They have lived in Carrollton for four years after moving from Michigan, and joined The Ridge Church three years ago. Scott serves as the Assistant Head of the Middle School at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison. He will be starting our Sacred Psalms series by teaching Psalm 115 and challenging us to consider the way all of the 150 Psalms can help to shape our worldview. Psalm 115 is an excellent example of a Psalm that offers important components of a God-centered worldview as it helps us understand more about who God is, the purpose He gives us in this world, and our human tendency to create idols as a mistaken form of response to God and His gifts.

Sacred Parenting: The father and the fear of God

On this Father's Day we will see that the fountain head of the culture in the home is the father. He is the head of his wife and family. He is to be a servant leader in his home. As the head he should fear the Lord and walk in His ways. Such a man will be blessed in all of the contexts of his life (marriage, parenting, work and the community).

Sacred Parenting: Culture

Each family is designed to be a culture with a languauge, customs, traditions and many unspoken assumptions. God has made the world in such a way that children who grow up in the culture of the family are to be shaped and molded by it. So what is shaping your children? Is the culture of the home shaping them or is the outside culture influences taken primacy when it comes to shaping your children? This week we will be encouraged to shape our children according to the standards of God's Word.

Sacred Parenting: God's Covenant

This week we begin a three week teaching series on Sacred Parenting. As Christian parents we are called to know, to remember and to grow when it comes to God-centered parenting. All this for the good of our children, but even above that, for the glory of God. As we begin we will lay such a foundation as we focus on our faithful God who keeps covenant with families.

Sacred Marriage: holiness

We continue this week through our five week teaching series on marriage. Marriage is treated casually and aimlessly in our culture. But God has a different view of marriage. This Sunday we are asking these questions: What if God didn’t design marriage to be easy? What if God had a different end in mind that went beyond our happiness and comfort? What if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy? What if we had this perspective? This week we will look at marriage through this lens.

Sacred Spokes: 1 Timothy 4.1-10

What are you paying attention to? What are you constantly being nourished on? Are you engaged with the disciplines of the Christian life? Paul tells the young pastor, Timothy, that we should discipline ourselves for the purpose of godliness because it is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. Today we will look at four sacred spokes that are huge to the motion and movement of our life with Christ: The Word, Prayer, Fellowship, and Witness. These are individual and corporate disciplines that we need to pay attention to, be nourished on and engaged in.

Sacred Love: Hebrews 10.19-25

As we move from celebrating Holy Week we continue to see that the sacred love of God displayed in His Son's death, burial and resurrection should continually impact our life. We will look at Hebrews 10.19-25 this week. In this Scripture we are encouraged by the sacred love of Christ to boldly and actively live in a growing, love relationship both with God and other believers even amidst the pressures of life in this world.

He is risen! He is risen indeed! Praise God for such a truth.
As we celebrate and reflect on the resurrection of Jesus this Easter we will look at a place in Scripture that is a good place to begin and a great place to return often. So whether you are searching, seeking, struggling or soaring today we pray that you are encouraged by the great love God has for you.

Sacred Love: John 13 Maundy Thursday

On this night we look back to the Lord’s Last Supper. Maundy Thursday, gets its name from the Latin word mandatum —commandment, remembering Jesus’ words to the Apostles during the Last Supper, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34). The last supper and the dealings of Christ surrounding this meal and especially following it displays the complete love of Jesus.

Sacred Life: Psalm 139.13-16

On Sunday we will be looking at the sensitive issue of abortion. We will see why Scripture prohibits it, but our nation allows it. As a result nearly 1.5 million abortions occur on average each year in the states. Nearly 115,000 occur daily in the world (over 3,000 in the U.S.). It is a much quieter Holocaust and Vietnam war killing the most innocent of lives. We do not want to throw stones, for there is grace and mercy because of the cross of Jesus Christ, but we do want to share the truth that sets us free.

Sacred Salvation: Romans 10.1-13

We live in a pluralistic society pointing people to many different ways to get to heaven. Scripture speaks of one sacred salvation that is available to all people. It is the only way, the only truth and the only life. Jesus is our salvation and hope of heaven. Today we expose Romans 10.1-13 to see the beautiful salvation that we have in Jesus.

Sacred Obsession: Galatians 6.11-18

As Paul closes his letter to the churches at Galatia we see his obsession. His obsession is the cross of Jesus. This is the thing he loves, reviles in, boasts in, rejoices in, and lives for. It is what he preached - its message, triumph, offense and wonder. It meant the world to him. It was truly his obsession. He considered everything else loss compared to it.

What is your obsession?

Cosmic View of Christmas

The night of Jesus' birth was not completely a silent night. As we see the cosmic view of Christmas we see a battle in the heavens. The Red Dragon (Satan) and his cohorts try to devour the Son of God. Their attempt is empty and Christ is victorious in His advent. Through this view we see that Christmas Day, Good Friday, Easter, the Ascension and Christ's second advent is really one glorious event.

Give Presence: Luke 11.27-28 (Peace)

I love the song "I heard the bells", especially the end when it says, "there is no peace on earth, hate is strong that mocks the song, peace on earth good will to men – then peel the bells more loud and deep, God is not dead nor does He sleep, the wrong shall fail the right prevail with peace on earth, good will to men." I long for peace. Peace in my relationshps, peace with all that is wrong, peace in the midst of suffering, peace to all our differences and above all peace with God. May you receive the peace of God and give the presence of peace this advent season.

Give Presence: Luke 11.27-28

We struggle with self-control, especially this time of year. That battle is aroused during this season. One of the fruits that God has so blessed us with is the fruit of self-control, that we would cultivate it and grow in it. From the internal battle to even the external we struggle with our self. We have a wrong view of ourselves and God. We have boastful hearts in who we are. Where does your boast lie? Everything in life is a glory issue. Our glory and whose glory is displayed in our life is whatever we are most satisfied in. For the issue of glory is also a joy issue and vice versa. Where your joy lies is where your boast lies. May we be happy in Jesus this advent season.

Give Presence: Galatians 5.22-25

What if Christmas looked different this year? What if you could receive a gift that lasted forever? Or what if you could give gifts that did? We want to invite you to rethink Christmas with us this year and to experience it for what it was meant to be.

On Sunday, November 30 Advent begins. For some this might be new. It was for me and my family a few years ago as well, but it is a season that my family and I have grown to love and enjoy. The word advent means to come. During the Advent season we celebrate God sending Jesus to earth wrapped in human skin. We also look with great anticipation to the second coming of Jesus, who is coming again for His Bride, the church. In Scripture Jesus testifies that He is the one who is and who was and who is to come (Revelation 1.8). This is what we will be celebrating this coming season. We will be celebrating Advent during our worship gatherings beginning November 30 culminating at our Christmas Eve service.

What a great joy to worship alongside our brothers and sisters of Nahnum Church. As we gather today we put our focus toward preparing our hearts for Advent, which begins November 30.
Galatians 5.7-12: The Supremacy of Christ in Truth

Paul encourages the Galatians to live a life of obedience to the truth of God. They have been hindered from doing such by some false teachers. Paul in a most graphic manner wishes those hindering the Galatians to be rendered powerless. In this passage Paul takes us from the track and field arena, to the kitchen and to the movies with a closing scene that would cause the FCC and the MPAA to cringe. Paul's prayer is that truth with prevail in our life!

Galatians 5.1-6: Freedom

Freedom. What a word. It is tossed around much in these days. Many will exercise one of their rights that freedom brings in the coming days. But there is so much more to this word than what we experience in this country. Freedom. What a necessity. Do you know freedom? Do you enjoy it? This week Paul addresses this necessity in his letter to the Galatians.

Orphan Sunday

Have you ever considered your own adoption into Gods family? What does it mean? What's the significance? Given our own adoption as believers in Jesus, what should our response be to the 143 million orphans in the world or the 500,000 in US foster care system or the 4,000 in foster care in North Texas? Today we will consider such questions on this day, which is Orphan Sunday

1 Peter 5.1-4: Church Leadership

God longs for the church to be one. Unity is so crucial to the working and movement of the church. Highly connected to such unity is the leadership of the church. This week we will take a break from our current study in Galatians and look at the what, why and who of church leadership in the church. You will get to meet our elders (including our recently affirmed elders) and church staff in each service. We will also have a special prayer time for our church leaders

Galatians 3.15-25: Two Covenants and Jesus

Have you ever wondered why God gave the Law? What is its purpose? What is it good for? Can it give us life? Can it show us anything? This week we will answer these questions as we see the relation of the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants. They are two good mountains iin God's landscape, but there is one mountain that stands as Everest. It is Christ. As we fix our eyes on Jesus today we will see God's plan for the Law and its relation to His promises as we continue our journey through Paul's writing to the churches in Galatia.

Galatians 3.10-14: Divine Curse and Blessing

How do you live your everyday life? Whose reliance are you leaning on through the activities or your day? What about when it comes to your job? What about your marriage? The answer reveals whether we live under the blessing of God or under the curse of God. Today we will look at what Paul says in the book of Galatians as he addresses the terror of that which brings divine curse and the comfort of that which brings one under divine blessing.

Galatians 3.6-9: Blessed to be a Blessing

Have you ever sat in traffic for a long time due to an accident or construction? You most likely have. The roadblock is usually due to some problem on the road that needs to be cleaned up or fixed. This week we look at Paul as he addresses a gigantic roadblock in the plan of God. God intended to bless the whole world through Abraham’s family, but Israel, the promise-bearers, were not only themselves failing, but getting in the way of the wider fulfillment. This is what is still continuing in Paul’s day and specifically in Galatia. Let’s be honest. We miss out on God’s blessings because we get in the way. We cause many roadblocks to the blessings of God due to trying to do things on our own. Paul writes to the Galatians concerning this problem and how God dealt with it. God is still faithful to His promises. The question is, will we trust Him?

Galatians 2.20: Identity

We live in a selfish age absorbed with self-esteem, self-improvement, self-fulfillment, and self-indulgence. It is all about what you want. Paul denounces such a mindset and life in one verse found in the book of Galatians. In this message we continue our study in the book of Galatians as we look into the issue of self and identity.

Galatians 2.15-21: Justification

As we continue our study in the book of Galatians we answer the following question: how can one be made right before God? We find the answer in what is called the doctrine of justification. Martin Luther claimed that if the doctrine of justification is lost, the whole of Christian doctrine is lost. Justification remains a vital doctrine today, even if many are not sure what it means. May we know and understand what it means to be justified.

Galatians 2.11-21: Representing Jesus in the Ministry of Reconciliation

We continue to look at the opposition between Paul and Peter. This was so important to the church at Antioch, to the Galatians and the advancement of the gospel of grace. Today we also deal with conflict, opposition and being stand-offish, which were all present in Galatians 2. This is important for us and the advancement of the gospel of grace just as it was then.

Galatians 2.11-16: No more masquerading

The scene changes from Jerusalem to Antioch and the mood also changes as Paul confronts Peter. The reason for the public opposition is Peter's double-mindedness and double standards. He would regularly eat and fellowship with Gentiles (the uncircumcised), but as some Jewish leaders from Jerusalem arrive in Antioch Peter withdraws from the Gentiles. His hypocrisy causes others to wear mask as well including Barnabas.

Andrew Peterson has said in one of his great songs, the church is the second coming of the Pharisees. At times, that is very true and so it was on this day in Antioch. May we apply and live what we profess to belileve. The gospel of grace, the soul of man and the glory of God is at stake. So, let's throw off the masks.

Galatians 1.11-24: Disciple - be one, make one

The gospel is literally a joyful message. Paul encounters this joyful message on the road to Damascus. God called Him and revealed Jesus to His heart. In a moment the mystery of the cross and the empty tomb of Jesus was unveiled to Paul. Paul never recovered from that. He was changed. He was now a disciple. He was commissioned to preach, to make disciples.

We are all called and commissioned as Paul was. Sure it looks different on how we have the Son revealed to us, but the story line is the same. We are chosen and called as the Son of God is revealed to our heart. God also calls us to a particular service for the equipping of saints for the work of service to the building up of the body of Christ. We are all called to be a disciple and to make disciples.

Galatians 1.10: Whose Pleasure Do You Seek?

Whose pleasure do you seek? Pleasing God and pleasing others or ourselves are mutually exclusive, you can’t seek after one and the other. You either seek the pleasure of one or another and we all make a god out of what we take most pleasure in. Who you take pleasure in (who you desire to please) depends on whether you will truly be truly happy or not. May you like Paul seek after the pleasure of God.

Galatians 1.1-5: The Gospel of Grace and Peace

Paul tells us in Galatians 5.1, It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery As Paul writes to the Galatians there is something important at stake. It is freedom. True freedom was being attacked in his day and it is being attacked in our day as well. We must lift up Jesus, who is the freedom giver. The cross of Christ is the only way one can experience true freedom and the Spirit of Christ is the only way one can live out God's aim and mission. Over the next few months we will look at God's desire of freedom through the book of Galatians. We will see what God has done to make freedom possible, we will see the message of freedom and see how one who is truly free lives. Our prayer is that nothing would hold you back from living out God's aim and mission. Our prayer is that you would be free and therefore live a life of freedom.

Pray and Do Not Lose Heart

Last week we heard of the great and glorious day of Jesus’ return. It is a day when He will come to judge and wage war, pouring out His vengeance upon His enemies as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It will be a day of reckoning. He will make all things wrong, right, for He is Righteous and True. He will make every imperfect thing, perfect, as the Great Perfecter of all things. He will make every unclean thing, clean and pure, as the Great Purifier. It will be messy as grapes, vessels of wrath, are tread upon by the Great Victor, Jesus. As the great theologian Johnny Cash says, "God’s Gonna Cut You Down". It will be a long awaited, glorious day for the children of God, as He will make all things new.

What do we do, until this great day comes, how do we live in light of this?

Jesus answers this question to His disciples in a parable connected to His foretelling of His second coming, His return, when the heavens will be opened and He comes riding on that white horse.

Philosophy

The Ridge Church lives to glorify God – loving Jesus, loving people and seeing lives transformed to live for Jesus. We have been called to live this out globally and locally (the mission) and we have essential beliefs as we move down the highway of life, that we hold dear to, so we do not get off focus and fall away. To help us stay focused and on mission we must have a system of values and principles by which we live and function by as a church, a philosophy - in ministry it is important to have the right mindset and attitude toward how things should be done.

Mission

As a church we have an aim (focus) to live for the glory of God by loving Jesus, loving people and seeing lives transformed to live for Jesus. The movement of this aim is called mission. It is putting into action our focus. We believe as a church we are to be intentionally, strategically engaged globally and locally simultaneously.

Essentials Part 2

The gospel and truth is under continual attack by Satan who sends out false teachers, false shepherds, false apostles and false prophets to wage war against the church, God’s people. There is a battle for truth and much is at stake – God’s glory and the eternal destiny for all. Join us as we are encouraged by Paul (1 Timothy 6.3-21) to fight the good fight of faith. We will also speak to the essentials of the church. These are the things that we will have a close hand on as we have an open hand to the culture around us.

Focus

Have you ever wondered about these questions: What the church lives for, why it exists or what its focus is? What is essential to the church? What philosophy does the church have when it comes to ministry? What is the mission of the church?

Through the month of April we will look at our church's focus, essentials, philosophy and mission. We pray during these messages you would join us in committing to the mission, recommit to the mission or watch and learn what the mission means.

Today we look at God's focus and how he wants us to align our lives with that focus.

MultiCongregational Service: The Ascension and Exaltation of Jesus

We believe by the revelation of God’s Word through the Holy Spirit that God in the person of Jesus descended, He was crucified, He has risen, ascended, was exalted, and will descend again. We talk about His first descension often or what is referred to as the first advent of Jesus, and which we should. It is what is called the incarnation, where God took on human flesh. Without this you have no opportunity to have a personal relationship with God. As John 1 says, In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and all things came into being through Him…the Word became flesh. It even has its own holiday – Christmas. We talk a lot about the crucifixion of Jesus often, as well as the resurrection of Jesus, which we should. This is how sin, death, Satan, and demons have been conquered. Without this there is no salvation. This is even celebrated with specific days called Good Friday and Easter, which we celebrated the week before last. We talk and refer to Jesus descending again, referring to His second coming. We do not talk about this as often as we should, but we do talk about it. But we rarely talk about the ascension and exaltation of Jesus. This is very important to us, for the church is found on the death, resurrection and ascension of its exalted head, Jesus, which sits at the right hand of the Father. So, I want to briefly spend some time on that this morning and then my great friend Jee-Young will come give some application to this.

Luke 15.11-32: Resurrection (Easter)

Thank God for Easter. It is on this day we remember the resurrection of Jesus. He suffered and died on the cross on Friday and was in the grave for three days. On the third day He raised from the grave. Today we thank for God for the resurrection. We are all in need of resurrection. To be resurrected is to be raised up. It is to be taken from one reality to a new reality. It is to be changed from the earthly to the heavenly. It is to be raised from life to death. We are all in need of this. Do you believe this?

Luke 15.25-32: The Big I

Last week we saw the loose living of the younger son. This week we see the condemnation of the older son toward his younger brother. Just as the younger son broke his father's heart the older son will do the same by his duty bound relationship. May the church not be like this. May we sit with sinners at the table, so that we are invited one day to the wedding feast.

Luke 15.11-19: Son or Slave

This week we look at the last of three parables. It is traditionally referred to as the parable of the prodigal son. If we are honest with ourselves we are all the prodigal. We all have eyes for the distant land. The question for us all is do we ever come home? The prodigal chose the distant land and therefore chose slavery. He gave up sonship. He finally wakes up to his situation and condition. He begins to realize what he has done. Thought he begins to change his change is simply to survive. He does not fully realize the nature of his sin. He has broken the heart of his father and denied sonship. He must be willing to receive his father's love and forgiveness. We must do the same.

Luke 15.1-10: Lost and Found

Today we begin to look at three parables found in Luke 15. During this talk we examine the first two parables that Jesus addresses to the Pharisees. We see the heart of Jesus in these stories. He desires for all to be restored to a relationship with God. Jesus is willing to bear the burden of restoration. He is on a mission to restore that which is lost, that it would found!

Nehemiah 13.1-9: Cleaning House [audio]

Things are going well in Jerusalem. The Jews have just dedicated themselves and the wall to the Lord. Their leader, Nehemiah returns to Persia and things start to unravel. Upon Nehemiah's return to the city he finds the people forgetting where they had come from and where God had brought them. They start turning to the ways of their fathers who they had longed to not be like because of their iniquities. Nehemiah returns and cleans house. We all are need of cleansing. God has called us to purity. So, how is the house of God? The house of God is you if you know Jesus. Is there some cleansing needed?

Nehemiah 12.27-47: O' Happy Day [audio]

In our day there seems to be much bad news, whether from the news channels, to the newspapers and even in our own homes. In the day of Nehemiah there were many depressing days from financial concerns, security concerns, and family concerns. But in spite of that the Jews were filled with joy and laughter. The Jews, under the leadership of Nehemiah, sought to think as God does, sought to see as God sees, sought to have God's perspective and see the big picture. This allowed the Jews to have joy in spite of their circumstances. As we will see today their joy is brought to a peak at the dedication of the wall. Their joy is so great that it can be heard from afar!

Nehemiah remembers those unknowns who have such a huge part in the revitalization of Jerusalem. The unknowns in life help pave the way. Without them nothing would be accomplished. God uses the unknowns and they never go forgotten by Him. During this sermon we remember the many unknowns who never get a chance outside the womb due to abortion. This week marks 35 years since the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. May we seek to redeem the culture like Nehemiah did and seek to have abortions made illegal.

Luke 19.11-27: Trust and Try [audio]

Last week we saw the Jews during Nehemiah's days declaring their desire to mirror the faithfulness of God in their lives. A great paralleling text to Nehemiah 10 is Luke 19.11-27. In this parable Jesus challenges His followers to trust and try.

Nehemiah 10: We declare [audio]

This Sunday we continue our series on the book of Nehemiah. As we journey through this classic book we will see how God has called us to be the church and impact the city. Today we look at Nehemiah 10. The Jews delcare this day in a document of great importance to mirror the faithfulness of God. This document is full of promises to be faithful to God and His Word. The Jews long to be faithful at home, in their rest, at work and in the community of believers. With this new year what will you make of first importance? What will you declare with your life in 2008?

Loving Jesus [audio]

Jesus commands us to love the Lord with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our mind. He says that this is the great and foremost commandment. If this is the case than should we not put all our attention and effort toward this one thing? As we close 2007 and look to 2008 we want to fall in love with Jesus more and more. It would be a great goal for 2008 to simply love Jesus more.

As we continue through this season of advent we will luke at the last part of Luke 1. Today through Luke's progression of writing we will see how mercy leads to peace. The mercy of God has been poured out in unexplainable ways and now we see the peace that comes from God's great mercy.

Mercy [audio]

We continue to look at the unexplainable this week through our advent series. There is much joy in the home of Zacharias and Elizabeth for Mary, who is bearing the Messiah in her womb has come to visit. This is a special visit as both Elizabeth and Mary give praise to God for His action on their behalf. It is His great mercy that is at the center of this joy. We do not deserve the mercy of God, but He freely bestows it upon us. That is what the celebration of advent is all about.

Hope [audio]

Do you have hope that God can do the impossible? That God can change your circumstances. Some do not have hope this time of year. There is hope. Hope has a name, His name is Jesus. And today we see the grounds of our hope in an amazing, mysterious and glorious story! May you have much hope this Advent season and share that hope as a gift with others who so desperately need to hear it.

Joy [audio]

Advent begins today as we look at joy! God has invited us to live the unexplainable life which produces unexplainable joy. Zacharias and his wife, Elizabeth were two that did just that. In spite of their dissapointment due to Elizabeth being barren they worshiped God. But God broke through and did the unexplainable by providing them a son, but not just any son. They are to be the parents of John the Baptist, the forefunner of the Messiah. We are encouraged today to live in the unexplainable realm and experience unexplainable joy.

Be the church, Impact the city. This week we see the revived Jews responding in confession and prayer. As they pray they recite the history of Israel giving praise to God. They close with action to state their changed lives. During our gathering on this day we showed a video of a couple in our church. This young couple has been overwhelmed by the grace of God in their lives. They wanted to share with you the life-change they have experienced.

Nehemiah 8:1-18 [audio]

Be the church, Impact the city. As we have seen and will continue to see this week, the structure and organization is important, but it is pointless if no life exists on the inside. This is the case most definitely in the church, but really in any organization. Today we are going to see the life of the city and those whom live in it truly revived (have life breathed back into them) through the proclaimation of God's Word and the response of His people.

Nehemiah 7 [audio]

Be the church, Impact the city. In Nehemiah 7 we see the people were well defended and governed, but not only that we begin to sniff out something of a sweet aroma (the aroma of Christ) as the church is being formed, as men stand as faithful heads of their families and generations to come leading them back to the city to be about this great redemptive work of rebuilding and reviving Jerusalem for the glory of God, as prayer and worship is the true defense of the city, and as the people faithfully fill the storehouses.

Nehemiah 6:1-19 [audio]

Be the church, Impact the city. Nehemiah can see the finish line! The ribbon is ready to be cut. At the same time his enemies are putting on the pressure to create fear in Nehemiah. They are making their final attempts to thwart the plans of Nehemiah in finishing the wall and restoring Jerusalem. Nehemiah models to us the great calling we have to stand under pressure. That we are call to endure and to keep our confidence all the way to the end.

Nehemiah 5:14-19 [audio]

Be the church, Impact the city. Nehemiah models for us four principles to live by as one who is counter culture. Worship is prominent in his life. He resists the empire's consumerism and chooses compassion over consumption. He re-distributes His wealth helping the poor. He also gives himself away relationally. These four points are part of an international movement entitled, The Advent Conspiracy. Join us this season as we choose compassion over consumption.

Be the church, Impact the city. Adversity is part of life. Sometimes opposition comes from external attacks and sometimes from internal attacks. Adversity is a necessary teacher for life and godliness. In this section of Nehemiah we see that the people are wounded by their own. They are oppressed becasue of the famine, high taxes, interest and slavery. Nehemiah confesses his own sin and calls the nobles and rulers to repentance and God changes their hearts.

Filling [audio]

Today we are taking a detour from the current series. We will jump back into our series on spiritual disciplines next week. This Wednesday I felt the Lord laying on my heart Ephesians 1.18-23. Today as we look at this great prayer of Paul’s for the church at Ephesus, I pray that we would grasp the great calling we have as the church, His body.

The Word of God [audio]

Closer: God has granted us so much, as His children. Scripture tells us in this journey in becoming more and more like Jesus that we must bring alongside what God has granted to us every effort we have to partake in His divine nature. Today we look at the first set of spiritual disciplines that we are to supply to our faith that has been given to us so graciously. The holy Scriptures are the key discipline of spiritual engagement that we must put all diligence to. Today we will look at this discipline.

Closer [audio]

Closer: Do you want to be closer to Jesus? Do you want to know Him more? Do you want to follow Him more closely? Do you want to be more like Him? When Jesus calls us He calls us to a life of the easy yoke. It is a life of knowing Him more, following Him and being more like Him. We look at the easy yoke today and then next week we begin to look at the spiritual disciplines that are a part of a life lived with Jesus.

Sex [audio]

A Great Mystery: Jesus, the church and marriage. As we have seen, the one flesh relationship that God desires for a husband and wife is about more than the physical. There is much more involved. But it definitely includes the physical. As we close our series today we will look at sex. Today we will look at sex and how it is connected to God.

Submission [audio]

A Great Mystery: Jesus, the church and marriage. We continue to engage with Paul’s words to the church at Ephesus on Jesus, the church and marriage. This week we will look at submission. Next week we will close our series with the topic of sex. Just as we did last week with the teaching of headship, we need to look at today’s teaching in the light of the gospel of grace. Sin has had a destructive effect on both headship and submission ruining their beautiful harmony.

A Great Mystery: Jesus, the church and marriage. Today we continue to engage with Paul’s words to the church at Ephesus on Jesus, the church and marriage. This week we will look at headship and next week submission. Following that we will close our series with the topic of sex. Today and next week we need to look at these two teachings in the light of the gospel of grace. Sin has had a destructive effect on headship and submission ruining their beautiful harmony.
Love [audio]

A Great Mystery: Jesus, the church and marriage. It is God's desire for a marriage to be a "one flesh relationship". Last week we looked at Ephesians 4 and saw what it took to have an enduring marriage, one that perseveres through conflict, BUT a marriage without love makes no sense. Today we will look at love, the glue that joins and unites.

Obstacles to Oneness [audio]

A Great Mystery: Jesus, the church and marriage. It is God's desire for a marrriage to be a "one flesh" relationship. Two different people, male and female, from different backgrounds and homes "joined together" to be "one flesh". This is God's goal for the church as well. Reality is we live in a messy world. Life, the church and marriage is messy. Today we address some practical words from the apostle Paul to help us in this pursuit of oneness.

A Covenant Relationship [audio]

A Great Mystery: Jesus, the church and marriage. How would you define the marriage reltionship? The chasm between the world's definition and the Biblical definition is huge. This week we will look at God's relationship with us and how that is where the marriage relationship finds its definition.
