An Intoxicating Drug

Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.  Matthew 5.7

Scott Harrison found himself stumbling home early one morning last June inNew Yorkafter a night of drugs and debauchery in a hotel after a gala film premiere.  For ten years Scott had embraced theNew Yorknightlife.  He had embraced the so-called American dream called:  materialism, selfishness, and social climbing.  He was an event coordinator for parties…he worked with everyone:  MTV, ABC, Cosmo, VH1 and all the big record labels, top models, and fashion designers.  He wore a rolex, dated a model, traveled globally from one beach party to the next.  He was living out the MTV generations dream.  Until he realized that this decade of selfishness had left him surprisingly empty and unhappy did he do something.

He had believed in God but had chosen this rebellious streak, but for Scott now was the time for change.  He ended up taking a journey with ANASTASIS, a 52-yr old, 550 foot vessel with the ministry MERCY SHIPS.  The work done onboard and off radically transforms the lives of poor and needy Africans through free life-changing surgeries and healthcare, education, and community development projects.  In a deal with God, Scott pledge to spend a year in service to the poor as a tithe for the last 10, a penance of sorts.  What Scott has seen and continues to see is MERCY, which he calls the most powerful drug.  It is intoxicating when it is put into action.

This week we will be talking about this intoxicating drug, mercy!  Also, have you seen Natalie Barnes?  She is back for a few months from serving with Mercy Ships in Africa.  Look for her, encourage her, pray for her, buy her lunch and listen to her stories!
