Heart of Hope

Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: The Heart of a Disciple Topic: Hope Passage: Matthew 16:13–20, 1 Peter 3:15

1 Peter; Matthew 16.13-20: When you think about the future, whether the next minute, tomorrow, next month, next year or even eternity how do you feel?  Do you feel secure?  Are you satisfied and content?  We all probably have something in the future, whether near or far off that causes us some anxiety or fear.  But God wants us to have hope.  God doesn’t want us to just hope that something will happen, but He wants us to have a living, unshakeable hope in the promises of God.  This is the kind of hope Jesus wanted the disciples to have when He said, “upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.”  Jesus wants His disciples to have a heart of hope where they do not shrink back in fear, but have such a hope in the midst of suffering and tough circumstances that the world notices and even might ask about their hope.  Why would the world ask about our hope?  Simply, they see something different and it is attractive.  Let us have a heart of hope and be ready to tell people why we do when they ask.
