Be Ready

Speaker: David Bird Series: Luke: Treasuring Jesus Topic: Discipleship Passage: Luke 12:35– 13:9

When a baseball player is named to the day’s starting lineup, he has to be ready. He can’t say, “Wait a minute and let me get my uniform on, stretch, and find my equipment.” He cannot get ready when called upon he has to be ready.

The same can be said of a date. When the boy arrives at the door you can’t be getting ready you need to be ready. Or, when there’s an 8:00pm movie the projectionist can’t look at his watch at 8:00 and start making his way upstairs to start the movie. He has to be at his station, the film loaded, and ready to hit the start button when the time comes.

Today’s message is about being ready not about getting ready. “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” Luke 12:35 Jesus doesn’t say “get dressed” but “be dressed” and ready to go. It’s not, “light your lamp” but “have your lamp already lit” and ready for when the Lord arrives.
