Bible Reading: 1 John 1.5-7
This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1.5-7
In today’s passage John uses a strong metaphor to show us the character of the Father. He says, “God is light.” Light represents goodness, righteousness and purity. The fact that John tells us that “in Him there is no darkness at all” reminds us that God is perfect. The intensity of this light is beyond our experience.
John states plainly that fellowship with the light of the world and walking in darkness is impossible. Every night with the flip of a light switch and every morning as dawn breaks we see that light drives away darkness. If we claim to have fellowship with Him we will surrender our will and our ways to the goodness, righteousness, purity and perfection of our God. John promises fellowship with other believers and salvation in Christ to those who walk in the light.
Take time to examine your walk today. Choose to live out truth and to be in fellowship with God. When you do this; when you test your actions against his goodness, righteousness, and purity; you will find greater blessing and peace than you have ever known, and you will reflect His light to those around you.
Weekly Memory Verse: Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. James 5.16
