Bible Reading: James 4.1-2
What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. James 4:1-2
Have you ever asked, maybe just to yourself: How did this conversation go so bad? or How did we end up here? Think to these times, were the words, I or mine used by you? James tell us in these couple verses that it’s because of our hearts, our selfish desires that we fight and argue. He goes even further in stating these desires even control our bodies to a point of causing us to lose control and say or do things of this world.
Unbelievers are controlled by their uncontrollable evil desires, and they do not have hope, meaning, peace and fulfillment in life, because those things come from God only. James says, You do not have because you do not ask. Believers don’t have because they are unwilling to ask on God’s terms and submit to Him and acknowledge dependence on Him. We should pray for God to change us in these things and so impact our life and relationships. So, may we pray for what Paul urged in our previous memory verses, By the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:1-2).
So let us start today to continue our transformation from things of this world to being more mature disciples by working together and bringing God glory.
