This Holy Week, we want you to be encouraged daily remembering this most special week.  Each day we will have online readings and devotionals on our YouTube channel.  This will include a special Maundy Thursday communion for you to do in your home and some worship for Good Friday.

April 6: John 12.1-11

On this Monday of Holy Week, we see in John 12 Mary and Judas.  Two who stand in quite drastic contrast.  Judas could not understand Mary’s crazy decision.  During dinner she had just taken a jar of expensive perfume and dumped it on Jesus’ feet!  That perfume was worth almost a year’s wages.  Judas thought, “What a waste!  Just think what could have been done with that money.”  Helping the poor truly was not Judas’ concern.  Judas was concern about Judas – he was a thief.  Both Mary and Judas were motivated by gain!  They both pursued the treasure that would make them happy.  For Mary, Jesus was her gain and far greater than money.  For Judas, it was money.  To follow means sometimes choosing to lose what the world sees as gain.  Jesus said, “Whoever loves His life loses it, And whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life” (John 12.25).  Hating your life in this world means going without worldly gain to have eternal gain.  Let us be like Mary, and may Jesus our great gain.
