What affect can Advent have on personal and family issues? EVERYTHING! The grace of God appeared in Bethlehem bringing salvation to us. As a result there are certain personal issues we must fight and deny; things in us that promote ungodliness and worldly desires.
But it’s not enough to focus on things we should not do. We grow tired of the “thou shalt nots”. We must focus on the positive things we should be doing! Paul encourages us to see how Advent promotes spiritual maturity as we actually practice God’s word.
One of the ways to grow in grace is to keep our eyes on the Second Advent – the second appearing of Jesus. Unlike the First Advent, this advent settles all issues we face. As the era of grace and mercy closes, may we embrace the love of God today.
