Matthew: My Response to Christ

Series: Matthew's Gospel: The King and His Kingdom Topic: Discipleship Passage: Matthew 12:38–12:45

Another word we might use for "disciple" of Christ is "apprentice" of Christ. An apprentice is always responding to the instruction of the Master which includes having mistakes pointed out; doing tasks over and over until basic skills are accomplished.
But an apprentice must move beyond competency in the basic skills. He must listen and learn wisdom from the Master so that his skills are used to create beauty, art, and life.
As we explore Matthew 12:38-45 we are going to discover three groups of people. One, group wanted more signs and wonders and miracles from Jesus before they believed He was worthy of being a Master of disciples.
Two, Jesus tells us about an Old Testament people who heard the words of God's prophet and repented and changed directions completely. They were responsive to the words of the Master.
Finally, we will meet a lady who searched great distances to find the wisdom of God so her life would beautify and glorify Him.
My prayer for this morning is that we would be responsive apprentices to God in the basics and move beyond to gain His wisdom in order to create Kingdom beauty around us.
