Matthew: Reformation vs. Relationship

Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Matthew's Gospel: The King and His Kingdom Topic: Discipleship Passage: Matthew 12:43–12:50

Think with me this morning about this scenario as we look at the Scripture today. There is this man who was all cleaned up and he had his life all together. There was this other man who had this sordid past, a present marred with struggle and he was not that put together on the outside. If I were to say the first man was doomed to hell and the second man to heaven you might do a double take. In fact, it might get to a point that you call me ‘mad’. But if you knew the condition of their souls you would see one with an empty soul and the other filled with the Spirit of God. This still may be a struggle for you, for this first man seems so good, but yet he is evil. Now you might think I am insane! Jesus got this kind of response when He came promoting a relationship with Him versus simply a moral reformation. Morality is a dangerous thing personally and globally, but a relationship with Jesus is the most joyful thing of all. Today we look at the true family of God and what their great joy is with the backdrop of a great danger.
