Matthew: Whatever Everything Hangs On Part 2

Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Matthew's Gospel: The King and His Kingdom Topic: Love Passage: Matthew 22:34–22:40

Matthew 22.34-40: As the religious leaders continue to test Jesus they are getting to the end of their options. Today, we find them trying to put Jesus against Moses, but Jesus shows otherwise using the very words that God gave to his servant so many years ago as the response to their question. Last week, we peered deep into the greatest command of priority, which is to love God with all that we are. This week, we look at the second command that follows on the same track, which is to love others. When we truly love God right we will love others right. Such a love is proof of our salvation and the defining mark of Christianity. This type of love is not bound to a certain time, place, field of work or people. It crosses the bounds of sterile religion, giving purpose beyond a mere pew on Sunday and acts of service just in a church building. God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven becomes a reality when we capture what Jesus is saying here.
