Matthew: Who is the Christ?
Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Matthew's Gospel: The King and His Kingdom Topic: Jesus Passage: Matthew 22:41–22:46
Matthew 22.41-46: What one thinks about government and taxes is important. What you think about the resurrection is too. There are many important issues when it comes to the kingdom of God, but the one that is of utmost importance is asked this week and brought to the surface. Jesus has been asked big questions and He has responded with divine and profound wisdom silencing His foes, but this week it is His turn to ask a question. What His question reveals is of utmost importance. He causes us to answer the question, Who do we believe Jesus to be? Is He just merely a man who did great things? Was He just a great teacher? Or just a prophet? Some are not far from the kingdom, but still not part of it. Today’s text makes a huge pronouncement of who Jesus Christ is and offers an invitation to us to see and savor Him as such.
