Matthew: Watching for the Sudden Return of Jesus
Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Advent: Fixed on Jesus Topic: Second Coming Passage: Matthew 24:36–24:51
Matthew 24.36-51: As we continue in our study of Matthew’s Gospel, we continue in chapter 24 today. With the context still set within the prophecies of Jesus concerning the destruction of Jerusalem and His second coming it is a call in today’s text for followers of Jesus to long for His return. Just as surely as Jesus’ prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem and it’s temple happened in AD 66-70, so will Jesus’ prediction of His return happen. It is evident from today’s text that no one knows the day or hour of Jesus’ return, except God the Father. With that in mind Jesus explains what His coming will be like and how we should respond to such truth. So, instead of being caught up in speculation, we should be watching for His imminent return by living a faithful life for His glory.
