Jonah: Nineveh or Tarshish?
Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Jonah Topic: Obedience Passage: Jonah 1:1–1:6
Jonah 1: What do you think of when you hear something about Jonah in the bible? No, doubt a big fish or whale comes to mind. But, the book of Jonah is not a story about a great fish. Instead it is really about our great God. In the book of Jonah, God has the first (1.1-2) and last word in the book (4.11). The book is all about Him. Yes, there is another character in the book too and that is Jonah. Jonah goes through a painful experience to discover the true character of God. Not only do we see the path of his journey, but the inner workings of his heart. The book unfolds his fears, his motivations and attitude. It is very revealing. As we journey through this book it causes us to search our own hearts, as we see this man on the run from God. So, as we begin today, we must ask are we running the direction God wants us to right now? Are we being faithful to His will and purposes? Or are we going in a different direction? As we behold God’s eternal truths today, may the Lord reveal things in our own heart that needs changed, so that we can live a life of obedience unto the Lord.
