Acts 11.19-30: When we look at the church in the Scriptures we could come up with many words to describe her, but one word stands out when we look at today’s Scripture text that clearly speaks of the church. It is the word sent. The church is sent. Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17.17, saying, “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” We are to imitate Jesus as one being sent into the world. The apostles were sent ones and we are to imitate their example as well. Simply put we are sent. It has been said by many that those of the church are either goers, senders or disobedient. We are called to the work of spreading the gospel throughout the world. We either are the ones going or we are the one’s supporting the work of those who do. In today’s text, we clearly see those who are sent, their fruitful lives and how the work of missions continues on. May we see our lives as lives on a daily mission sent as Jesus was into the world. May we support the work of those being sent and be open to being sent off if God so desires that for us. We are sent.
