When God Changes Our Direction

Speaker: David Bird Series: iWitness Topic: Discipleship Passage: Acts 20:1–16

“When God Changes Our Direction”

There’s an evangelism tool called “The Four Spiritual Laws” and the first law says, “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.” God does have a plan for each of us and it starts with repenting of our sin and trusting in Christ Jesus as our Savior. After that the wonderful plan often gets confusing. Things happen that we don’t understand. We make sinful choices and wonder if we’ve permanently messed up the wonderful plan – we have to settle for a good plan instead of a wonderful plan.

Sometimes our human selfishness we force our plans on God and tell Him what the GPS looks like. “This is the way Lord! I have this all figures out. I’ll do my part and you bless it and I’ll show you how good my wonderful plan can be.”

Sometimes we are following God’s purpose when He seems to change His mind or at least change our direction and focus. There’s that transitional situation in life when we thought God said this but now He is saying this. Those moments can be a little paralytic.

In Acts 20:1-16 the Apostle Paul is confronted with several changes of direction. In these verses God’s people are also learning how to flow in the rhythm of closely following God. Today may we find the wonderful plan God has for us in this season of life.
