Do we love one another?

Speaker: David Bird Series: The Father Heart of God - 1 John Topic: Love Passage: 1 John 4:20– 5:4

As we have studied 1 John we have seen three tests for true Christianity. Have you noticed these tests that John repeatedly writes about? The first is a moral test - do we obey God's word? Some in the church were teaching, “I can know God and live like I want to with no regard to God’s commands”. John addresses this fallacy several times.

The second test concerns true doctrine - do we believe what God's word says about Jesus? Some were saying, “I can know God while denying what the Bible says about Jesus being the Son of God who died and was raised again. John sets the doctrinal issue straight.

Today we are going to review a third test. John gives us a relational test in 4:20-5:4 as he continually asks, “Do we love one another?” Some were saying, “I can know God without loving the brothers”. John speak to this as well. The Bible doesn’t say God has love. He is love. He created you as an object of His love.  You’re one of His favorites and God wants you to be like Christ.  He created you to learn how to love.  In fact, you were put on this planet to show His love to everyone, especially His children. So that is our goal today. How do I learn to love everyone in the Christian family?
