Jesus’ Mission is Our Mission

Speaker: Kevin Culver Series: Luke: Treasuring Jesus Topic: Discipleship Passage: Luke 19:1–10

Luke 19:1-10

Today we study the simple and familiar conversion story of Zacchaeus.  Once again Jesus does the unexpected and almost everything about this story seems impossible:

  • That rich man would want to see Jesus so bad that he climbs a tree like a child;
  • That Jesus would single out this one man and stay at his home;
  • That Zacchaeus would give away his riches.

In Luke 18:7 Jesus declared that what is impossible for mortals is nevertheless possible for God. Zacchaeus is one more example of the unexpected and unlimited possibilities with Jesus.

Jesus is relentlessly seeking and saving one lost person after another. And you and I are his assistants, his disciples, his co-workers. His mission is our mission.

As you go through your week look around at the people around you. People where it seems impossible that they would ever be disciples of Jesus. Don’t write them off as unreachable. Be interested in their life, ask if they want prayer, ask where they get their peace and joy from and tell them where you get yours.  Invite yourself into their life and show them you have found the way.
