Learning From God's Truth and Experiences
Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Gospel in Life Topic: Christian Life Passage: 1 Corinthians 14:20–21
God has given us all a mind to think with. He gave us our mind to love Him with what we think about, our thoughts and mind. In Matthew 22.37, Jesus says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Paul encourages the church in Corinth with these words because their thinking and thoughts were not right. In fact, they were wrong about a lot. They were lacking wisdom and were extremely experienced in evil. Paul has been talking about the church’s view of spiritual gifts and how they conduct their worship gatherings and he wants them to get things in the right order, but for that to happen their hearts, minds, thinking and life had to change. They needed to get their life in order. The Corinthians needed to stop being childish in their thinking, to be innocent in evil, mature in their thinking and have childlike faith. It started with listening to God’s Word. They needed to stop being dull of hearing when it came to the simple truth of the gospel.
