The Hub and Sacred Spokes
Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Disciple: Be One, Make One Topic: Discipleship Passage: 1 Timothy 4:1–4:16
1 Timothy 4.1-16: Do you remember when you learned to ride a bike? You went from training wheels to just two. You most likely fell a few times as you learned enduring some scrapes and bruises. You knew what the goal was – ride the bike without help. Did you ever think about the wheels while riding, let alone the spokes or the hub? Probably not, but how important they are to the movement and power to the bike. The life of a disciple is similar to riding a bike. We want to progress in maturity and move forward in our walk with the Lord. There is need for spiritual training wheels and for help along the way, so you don’t fall. Much like riding a bike, there is the importance of the power source and what we will call sacred spokes. So, today we look at the hub - the power source of the disciples’ life and the personal and corporate practices (spokes) to the disciple’s life that is the means to godliness.
